11:38 pm - Video - Down (Rimmer POV)
|

darkbunnyrabbit
|
Title: Down Vidder: darkbunnyrabbit Song Title/Band: Down, by Jason Walker Rating: PG at most Series: Red Dwarf Summary: Spoilers up to S7 Stoke me a Clipper
This is a fairly straightforward tribute/character POV vid of Rimmer, specifically his feelings while considering the mantle of Ace, and his general sense of unfairness throughout the rest of his tenure.
Notes:
I originally had a plan to use this song for another video, but I'm so glad I didn't this one is a much better concept. I don't have access to my remastered version at the moment, so the quality of the video isn't as nice as I'd like it to be. There's a few glitches left in the video that bug me, but Vegas is so slow it's hard to know what the video will look like until it's done, and the glitches aren't enough to go back and fix them. Holoship is legit one of the saddest episodes for Rimmer. Better than Life is also one of them. It's all his POV, so even if he richly deserves his comeuppance, it counted. The scene where he's using learning drugs is not about finding his revisions, in case it isn't clear, I just used it to indicate how desperately he wanted to pass.

2:58 pm - It’s official: Red Dwarf to get full new series in 2012

Red Dwarf is returning for a new six-part series, it’s been revealed. This is good. Ever since Red Dwarf was sort-of-brought-back last year, courtesy of the TV channel Dave, there's been persistent chatters that a full-on series would duly follow. Yet, until now, there's been no official sign of it being commissioned. But that's all changed. Craig Charles let slip the news when chatting on Real Radio's breakfast show earlier this week, when he said that "They've commissioned another series of Red Dwarf. We're going to film at the end of November, December and January." He went on to say that it was only worth doing if it was "as funny as it used to be", arguing that "we've got to recapture the highlights like series 5, series 6, that kind of stuff. If we can hit that mark, then brilliant. There's no point doing it if it's a bit so-so." Robert Llewellyn confirmed the news on his website, revealing that it was a new six-episode run that was coming, and that once again, we've got Dave to thank for it. "The plan at the moment," he revealed, "and this could change, the plan is that we record the new series in front of an audience."
Oh yes!!

9:08 pm - Musical question.

A question regarding the first ever episode of Red Dwarf I saw when I was but 9 years old - Bodyswap.
Does anyone know the name of the military-sounding music Rimmer (in Lister's body) is playing when he legs it in Starbug after nicking Lister's body? I want it for a video project but I am buggered if I know what it's called!
Cheers!

How many of you/us automatically insert "Grannykiller" in between the first and last names of someone with the last name of "Doyle"?
As in, "Bosley on Charlie's Angels was played by David 'Grannykiller' Doyle."
How many of you with the last name of "Doyle" commonly refer to yourselves this way?

11:05 pm - Name That Tune
|

I have a somewhat strange relationship with classical music. Most often I find myself recognising a piece by its tune but I have no idea who composed it or what its name is.
Such was the case with what Rimmer hums to himself while doing star jumps and having that awful flashback in Thanks For The Memory: from a TV advert for Children's Classics earlier today I now know it's from Prokofiev's Peter And The Wolf. I'd known the tune for years, and have known the name of the piece and the composer for about seven hours.
But there's another one bugging me: the march that Rimmer plays as he makes off with Lister's body in Bodyswap. I watched it earlier; it's about 22 minutes in. I have no idea who the composer is, or the name of the piece.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

11:53 am - Does this taste like Lister or the cat?
|

rosencrantz319

Lister: Maybe that wasn't such a great example. I'm trying to say our lives are dull, repetitive. We never take time out to smell the roses. We never celebrate anything. Cat: We got nothing to celebrate with, bud. Kryten: Oh, not true, sir. There's a whole case of that wine I brewed out of urine recyc, just lying there, practically untouched. Lister: Call me pretentious if you like, but for me, a truly great wine should not leave you with a moustache that you can only remove with turps.
Astronauts enjoy recycled urine Posted: 09:02 AM ET The crew of the International Space Station (ISS) tasted their own urine Wednesday — and NASA didn’t even have to double-dog dare them.
Astronauts celebrated by “clinking” their drinking bags together in a traditional cheers before sipping water composed of recycled urine, sweat and atmospheric moisture. The cheers marked the initiation of a closed loop water recycling system aboard the ISS.
NASA claims each crew member creates about a gallon of water from urine every six hours, but the source water doesn’t just come from the space station’s human occupants. “Lab animals on the ISS breath and urinate, too, and we plan to reclaim their waste products along with the crew’s. A full complement of 72 rats would equal about one human in terms of water reclamation,” Layne Carter, a water-processing specialist with NASA, said in a statement released by the space agency.
On NASA TV, Flight Engineer Mike Barrett confirmed “the taste is great,” as another astronaut swam through the air catching floating bubbles of the recycled water. “This has been the stuff of science fiction,” Barrett said on the program. “Everybody’s talked about recycling water in a closed loop system, but nobody’s ever done it before. Here we are today with the first round of recycled water.”
Tom’s Hardware is less enthusiastic about drinking the potent potable:
While it might sound completely gross to us, the water is probably cleaner than what we drink on earth. That being said, I’d rather take my chances with Earth water than drink the purified urine of a rat. Really.
Similar water purification technology was employed after the Asian tsunami in 2004, but with large scale use there is typically a much larger gap between urine and tap.
Would you be willing to drink reclaimed urine, or are you sticking to bottled water while Evian is available?
